REVIEW: Exspect DJ Style Headphones
I unboxed the Exspect DJ Style headphones the other week but I was not quite sure what to expect over the Sennheiser HD201 headphones I picked up last month. At first look they appeared to be more concerned with cosmetic design rather than actual use however after using them recently I can say there is more than meets the eye here…
The headphones are made of a higher quality than I expected. When you first feel them I was surprised how sturdy yet flexible they are. They are not closed back headphones and so the covers have the ability rotate. Also, the main headphones fold on themselves adding extra portability if you need it. I didn’t realise this before but they’re a great pair of headphones to take with you anywhere because they when flat they have a depth of just over an inch. This is a great bonus over a rather bulkier set of closed back headphones like a pair of the Sennheiser HD201.
On the other hand these Exspect headphones are not comfortable for long term period use. They are tight and the little bit of cushion on the top of your head is more for show and because of the flexible hinge it doesn’t allow the cushion to cover the whole top region. Because of this you can sometimes feel the hinge when you wear them. Yet the cushions over your ears feel good quality and minimise outside noise surprisingly well. This was a great advantage when I was using them last night for a live radio event where I needed to use these headphones in a really loud busy event hall. I could easily hear the music source over the external noise and these Exspect DJ style headphones did a satisfactory job, beyond what I expected.
It comes with a 3.5mm standard connection for your PC audio port and MP3 players and bear in mind the cable length is average at just over a metre, which isn’t much different from any other headphones. Remember these are DJ style headphones not actual headphones meant for DJing or other activities. Cosmetically though they could be said to be quite plain sporting a black and a dark slightly chrome look compared to many other quite brightly coloured headphones on the market. Yet they look nice and give style without blaring it out to everyone who looks at you which in some cases can be a positive. Personally I like them but maybe some kind of insignia or picture on them would produce a more desired look.
So having used these headphones very often recently, I like the actual audio quality they produce as well as the style (you could say in a fashion sense) they are. If you’re looking for something like that but don’t want to shell out a large amount for a big branded alternative, then these Exspect DJ style headphones won’t let you down!
